Alex Sgoutas joined Delta in 2000. He has extensive hands on business experience, developing and implementing innovative business and marketing solutions for diverse companies and products.
Alex's thirty year business career began at Heublein Inc. where in six years he rose from Assistant Brand Manager to Group Product Manager responsible for the successful marketing and growth of many profitable brands. He was then recruited by PepsiCo Inc. as Director of Marketing. During this time he helped build Stolichnaya Vodka into a leading super premium brand, established a strong Eastern European wine business and served on numerous international trade committees as well as taking part in national and international negotiations.
Alex was then recruited by Norton Simon to be a Vice President and Director of Marketing for the company’s Somerset Division where he was responsible for all marketing functions and assisted in the management of a California winery and four outlet stores. He was then hired as a Vice President of Marketing by Moet Hennessy’s Schieffelin division where he managed one of the company’s marketing groups. He left Schieffelin to form his own consulting firm, successfully serving many different small and large clients. During this time he also worked with a Wall Street investment-banking firm, evaluating selected emerging growth companies. He was later instrumental in completing a $5 million IPO for one of his clients.
In 1992 Alex became the Chief Executive Officer and a Director of a high tech start up based in Richmond, Virginia. He interfaced with customers and investors and guided strategic alliance investigation and negotiations, raising over $18 million in R&D and investment funding in seven years.
Alex was born in Greece, raised in South Africa and has a BA in Economics from Trinity College in Hartford, CT. He studied law for two years at Athens University. He served on the Board of Directors and was on the awards committee and a judge for the Greater Richmond Technology Counsel. He was also an expert panelist in KPMG’s Pursuit of Capital seminar series. Alex is married with four children, speaks a number of languages and enjoys travel, most outdoor sports and particularly year round kayaking.
